Parenting 101: Help! My Daughter Needs a Make-Under
Are super big lashes, super expensive lace fronts, designer nails, contoured cheeks, and super plump lips a part of your teen daughters everyday uniform? Does she refuse to leave the house without a serious make-up beat? If so, she may need a make-under. Unlike the past, today we live in a selfie dominated world. Social media is used daily and adolescents rely heavily on their mobile devices. If you have a teen that has gone overboard with his/her look you may have to step in and help them tone things down. Here are a few suggestions on how to subtly help your teen dial back their look.
Lead by Example
Before sitting down to check your teen on their habits. Check in with yourself and ask “Am I completely obsessed with my look? Do you refuse to leave the house without make-up? Do you place a large emphasis on outer appearances? Modeling healthy balanced behavior around your own looks is one way to set a good example for your teen.
Go Natural
Encourage natural nails, natural hair styles, and a bare face. There are so many beautiful natural hair styles and natural nail designs that young people can choose from today. Gently point out these images and suggest ones you think would look good your teen.
Put the Cell Phones Down
There is a large body of evidence highlighting the detrimental effects social media has on teens. Think about it, teens are literally being accepted and rejected by “likes” on social media. Encourage your teens to put their screens down from time to time. Make car rides a cell phone free zone and use the time to connect and learn more about what is going in the life of your teen.
Practice Healthy Skin Care Habits
Help your teen to put make up in its place by encouraging them to take good care of their skin. A healthy skin care routine can improve the appearance of the skin and lessen the need for makeup. Encourage your teen to engage in healthy skin care habits each day. The YELLE Essential collection is perfect for teen use and when used daily it lays a foundation that will teach your teen to take care of their skin for years to come.
Turn off Filters
Some kids don’t even recognize themselves without some sort of filter. There are multiple ways for users to tweak their look on social media from filters that plump the lips, filters that give radiant skin, to ones that change your facial shape. It is quite easy for your teen to project a different version of themselves. Encourage your child to go filter free or unretouched from time to time. This will hopefully help them to become more comfortable seeing themselves and embrace the reality of who they actually are.
Give your teen a make-under that includes the YELLE essential kit. YELLE is a skincare line the whole family can use to look and feel their best!
