Horrifying Skin Myths
Halloween is right around the corner and our YELLE Skincare team couldn’t think of a better time to debunk some of the most horrifying skin care myths buzzing around the neighborhood. With plenty of false information floating around, were looking at some of the most ghastly urban legends and downright creepy myths, sifting through the claims, and letting you know which ones you should stop believing.
You don’t need SPF on cloudy days
Our YELLE Skincare team knows we don’t have to convince you that your melanin skin needs SPF. But we still have to stomp out the myth that you don’t need SPF on cloudy or rainy days. The human eye cannot see the entire spectrum of light emitted by the sun and contrary to popular belief clouds do not absorb UV rays, the sun actually penetrates through the clouds and impact your skin, thus making sunscreen important even on cloudy or rainy days.
A little lemon juice to brighten the skin
Remember back in the day when folks would dab a little toothpaste on their pimples to get rid of their acne. Well lemon juice has taken over as the new DIY “it” ingredient. The reason you have to be careful with lemons is because they are very acidic and when applied directly to the skin they can seriously irritate it or cause chemical burns. You’d be better off with using YELLE Skincare’s Awakening Brightening Serum formulated specifically for the skin with natural skin brighteners to restore your skin’s glow.
You only need to wash your face 1x a day
If you work out, wear makeup, or have excessively oily skin you need to wash your face 2x a day. Sweat and makeup can lead to breakout which is why it is important to wash your face right after working out and to remove make up before going to sleep. YELLE Skincare's Awakening Cleanser can be left on the skin for 3-5 minutes to provide an extra deep cleansing and to breakdown oil after a heavy application of makeup.
Sugar doesn’t affect your skin
Think twice before filling up on the dozens of bite sized sugar treats being passed around this Halloween season. One or two treats won’t hurt but too much sugar can lead to inflammation which tears down collagen and elastin. Try reaching for fruit, beans and whole grains and not too much candy this time of year.
You can open and close your pores
Once and for all, you cannot open and close your pores. Warm steam helps to soften sebum for extractions which makes it easy to release trapped oil, dead skin cells, and blackheads, but even after the oil is extracted from the skin the pores don’t shrink they just look less noticeable because the excess sebum and debris has been removed.
Fill your goody bag with YELLE skincare treats this Halloween season. Try out our Awakening cleanser, toner and eye cream to remove your most bewitching Halloween makeup look.
