TikTok has everyone obsessed with challenges these days, so we decided to start our own.
With everything going on in our lives, we sometimes forget to practice self-care, such as our skincare routine. This is why we're challenging you to a 7-Day Healthy Skin Challenge.
Day 1:
Remove your makeup EVERY single night (if you don’t wear makeup, then thoroughly cleanse your skin every night).
The biggest reason why skin ages faster and breaks out more than usual is improper cleansing. Sometimes we don’t remove our makeup thoroughly and the leftover residue seeps into our skin to cause breakouts and fine lines. If you think this doesn’t apply to you because you don’t wear makeup, well have we got a surprise for you! Your skin builds oil throughout the day, and if not properly cleansed, your skin will be more prone to breakouts and will age faster.
More than ever, we need to properly clean our skin every single night because of face masks. Even if you wear a mask to go to grab coffee for a minute, it still collects bacteria on your skin. Maskne (acne caused by masks) is a new thing we need to combat actively.
Day 2:
Catch up on your beauty sleep!
We need sleep, just as much as we need food and water to survive. Sleep has endless amounts of benefits for our physical AND mental health. It is one of the most important, yet overlooked parts of a #HealthySkinRoutine.
Sometimes getting the proper amount of sleep is our last priority because of work deadlines or other obligations. Making a schedule for yourself can help relieve stress and ensure you’re getting enough rest. Planning your days and weeks ahead of time helps to get your tasks done in a timely manner and not overwhelm yourself last minute.
Remember: All-nighters are a big NO-NO!
If you aren’t getting enough sleep every single night, then try to get on track with just a few days per week to start. After each week, add an extra day and, hopefully, in the end, you’ll be getting proper sleep 7 days a week!
Day 3:
Exfoliate your skin every week.
Exfoliators are essential to remove impurities and dead skin. Depending on your skin type, you might need to exfoliate more or less. Exfoliating will reduce the appearance of pores and help you achieve brighter, smoother skin.
You can use the information about the powederporefect exfoliator as a guideline:
- Dry skin: 1-2 times/week
- Normal skin: 2-3 times/week
- Oily skin: 3-4 times/week
- Sensitive skin: 1/week
Day 4:
Drink water & stay hydrated.
We know, we know, you’ve probably heard this countless times before, but it really is essential. Sometimes, all your body and skin are missing is some internal hydration that can only be provided with water. Instead of coffee, energy drinks, and juices, do yourself a favor and drink as much water as you can.
If you need reminders or motivation to drink more water, then invest in a cute water bottle that you’ll want to use. There are also apps that can remind you when to drink water and how much.
Some Apps that can help keep you on track:
- Hydro Coach
- Daily Water Tracker Reminder
- Drink Water Reminder
Proper hydration is essential to prevent pesky pimples and premature aging. If you are a fan of coffee and energy drinks, remember to drink even more water because they are very dehydrating.
Hydration = Healthy Skin
Day 5:
Give your skin a day off!
If you are an avid makeup wearer, your skin deserves a rest day. End the workweek by letting your skin ease into the weekend. It’s the perfect way to start a pampering weekend for yourself.
We realize it might feel weird at first to change your routine completely and step out with no makeup, but this is a challenge after all! If you aren’t ready to commit to no-makeup for an entire day, then take baby steps.
Day 6:
Avoid touching your face.
This can be a habit that’s hard to break, but it is very important to do so. We touch so many surfaces all day and collect the germs that end up on our faces. Be observant of when you touch your face, and force yourself to stop.
Along with not touching your face, be aware of the things you do allow to touch your skin! Our phones are one of the things that touch it often, and our phones are also small portable petri dishes that carry unimaginable amounts of germs. This should be a given, especially during a global pandemic. Cleaning it once a day is recommended, but you can clean it as many times as you would like!
Day 7:
Clean your makeup brushes!
Don’t neglect your brush hygiene! Your makeup brushes are the backbone of your routine, and dirty makeup brushes are loaded with oily makeup residue, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Cleaning your brushes will not only help you avoid breakouts for clearer skin, but your foundation will also apply much more flawlessly & extend your brush life.
So how many times should you be cleaning your brushes?
You should be cleaning your brushes and sponges weekly. We recommend cleaning beauty sponges after each use and replacing them every 3 to 4 months. It’s easy for your beauty sponges to become filled with skin cells & have an overgrowth of bacteria.
Once you make it through a full week, hit us up and let us know which challenge was your favorite? What was the most challenging? What can you incorporate into everyday life?
